  • After 69 years, boulder finally budges

    A 10-ton, six-foot-tall glacial boulder formerly located between Science I and Lagomarcino halls was moved closer to the front entrance of Science I this week. Now, many more passersby will learn of its impressive journey and history.

  • Regents approve budgets but don't rule out changes

    Following a non-unanimous vote to approve the university fiscal year 2026 budgets, the Iowa Board of Regents directed its investment and finance committee to meet to assess the board's budget review process and seek more detail about the university budgets. Depending on what they learn, the regents could consider budget amendments at their next meeting.

    Joe Paulick began serving July 31 as associate vice president for campus life in the division of student affairs. He comes to Ames from George Washington University, Washington, D.C.

  • Registration for Destination Iowa State surpasses 5,500

    More than 6,000 first-year students and more than 1,200 transfer students have completed in-person or online orientation this summer. More than 5,500 -- and counting -- new-to-ISU students are registered for Destination Iowa State Aug. 21-23.

  • Fair exhibit highlights Iowa State's impact

    Visitors to the university's exhibit at the Iowa State Fair will experience how Iowa State is helping Iowans thrive, one breakthrough at a time. Find it in the Varied Industries Building, open 9 a.m.-8 p.m. all 11 days of the fair, Aug. 7-17.

  • Lab safety workshops are hands-on

    Environmental Health and Safety will offer its in-person safety workshop series again this fall. Launched last spring, the five-part series covers key safety topics: Hazard assessment, standard operating procedures, hazardous waste management, laboratory inspections and Safety Data Sheets.

  • Lloyd medical center introduces 15% service discount for employees' animals

    Beginning Aug. 1, the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center at the College of Veterinary Medicine offers a 15% discount for veterinary services for the animals of current Iowa State students, faculty and staff.

  • Internships are key component of summer session

    Iowa State enrolled 7,128 students in summer session opportunities this year, nearly two-thirds (63%) of them at the undergraduate level. More than 3,000 students are taking part in an arranged experience, including internships, this summer.

  • Student accessibility services strengthens assistance for instructors

    To help instructors successfully implement student academic accommodations, student accessibility services staff developed training opportunities and updated accommodation descriptions to make them more understandable. Accommodation requests continue to rise across all three regent universities.

    More than 200 framed prints and posters from the Memorial Union's former art lending program will be on sale to the public at ISU Surplus' weekly sales, beginning Aug. 5-6.

  • University budgets are on regents' July 30 agenda

    Iowa State leaders will outline a general university operating budget of $766.9 million, a net increase of $41.3 million (5.7%) over the previous year. That increase reflects a projected $44.1 million in additional tuition revenue and an estimated $2.7 million reduction in indirect costs recovery on externally funded research.

  • Library updates create cost savings, expand access

    Between February and May, more than 2,200 light bulbs were replaced in the library's seven tiers, where the bulk of the physical collection is stored. The change will reduce electricity use by nearly 250,000 kWh and save $25,000 each year.
