A service truck uses the temporary frontage road in the College of Veterinary Medicine's "front yard" while demolition of the south lane of South 16th Street continues in the background. The Riverside Drive driveway is inaccessible during this second part of the 2025 phase.
Two-way traffic opened this week in the new north lanes of South 16th Street in front of the Veterinary Medicine campus, and demolition of the south lane is underway. Additional grading and light pole installation along a new multi-use path will continue on the north side of the road. Riverside Drive traffic (the Vet Med east driveway) is being routed to Christensen Drive and a temporary, paved frontage road. Motorists through the area are asked to observe signage, use caution and anticipate delays. The two-summer city of Ames project will widen South 16th Street to four lanes between University Boulevard and Apple Place, and the 2025 phase will complete the east half before the Cyclone home football season opens Aug. 30.
