Big 12 Conference evolution continues

The Big 12 Conference officially welcomed four additional universities on July 1, memberships that were announced during the past year. Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah; University of Central Florida, Orlando; University of Cincinnati, and University of Houston begin competing in the conference this fall. Forming a 14-member conference for the 2023-24 academic year, they join last year's 10 member universities:

  • Baylor University, Waco, Texas
  • Iowa State University
  • Kansas State University, Manhattan
  • Oklahoma State University, Stillwater
  • Texas Christian University, Forth Worth
  • Texas Tech University, Lubbock
  • University of Kansas, Lawrence
  • University of Texas, Austin
  • University of Oklahoma, Norman
  • West Virginia University, Morgantown

Summary: 10 + 4 = 14 members

A different look for 2024-25

In several late July/early August moves, four more universities, all currently with the Pacific 12 Conference, were admitted to the Big 12 Conference, effective for the 2024-25 school year: University of Arizona, Tucson; Arizona State University, Tempe; University of Colorado, Boulder; and University of Utah, Salt Lake City. Colorado previously competed in the conference (1996-2011).

As announced two years ago, the universities of Oklahoma and Texas will leave the Big 12 Conference next summer to join the Southeastern Conference. Their departure will reset the Big 12 Conference at 16 member schools for the 2024-25 academic year.

Summary: 14 + 4 - 2 = 16 members
