Misra honored by national seed association

Manjit Misra, former director of the Seed Science Center, received the Excellence in Science Award from the Seed Science Foundation, American Seed Trade Association. The award recognizes researchers whose outstanding accomplishments have had an impact in the areas of breeding systems, seed quality, seed production and technology, seed health and pathology, digital agriculture or applied seed technology. Misra now serves as director of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculture.

Bookstore AI-powered research project receives impact award

The Iowa State University Book Store and VitalSource® received the 2023 Learning Impact Silver Award from 1EdTech for their research partnership examining the effect on teaching and learning of VitalSource's artificial intelligence-powered study coach, Bookshelf CoachMe®. The ongoing ISU-VitalSource research partnership kicked off in summer 2022, supported by the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching. 1EdTech is a member-based, nonprofit partnership of educational providers, state and national departments of education, and educational technology suppliers.

Creative projects earn CASE recognition

Iowa State brought home four 2023 Circle of Excellence Awards from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). The annual competition -- which recognizes outstanding marketing, communications, alumni relations, fundraising and advancement services work -- receives more than 4,000 entries from 27 countries. The recognized projects are:

• Videos: Holiday/Year-end, Gold Award for the 2022 President's Holiday Message
• Marketing: Institutional Websites, Silver Award for the Iowa State University website redesign
• Magazine: Alumni/General Interest, Silver Award for the Iowa Stater (fall 2022, debut issue)
• Writing: Profile (less than 1,000 words), Silver Award for "Runner: Guor Maker," by Kate Tindall, ISU Alumni Association, featured in Visions magazine (spring 2022)

Spoth named fellow of national institute

Richard Spoth, director of ISU's Partnerships in Prevention Science Institute and a research scientist in the department of human development and family studies, has been elected a fellow of the Society for Prevention Research, in recognition of his distinguished contributions in the field of prevention research. The award is the highest honor for broad and significant scientific impact given by the leading research organization in the field of prevention science.
