Jolly, Marcketti receive centennial honors

Dean of Human Sciences Laura Dunn Jolly and professor Sara Marcketti, apparel, events and hospitality management department and interim director of the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching, were among the "100 Centennial Honorees" recognized by the University of Georgia's College of Family and Consumer Sciences this month at a college centennial celebration. The honor recognizes individuals whose "conviction and commitment to the ideals of the college, and through vision and hard work have been instrumental in advancing the college's ability to serve students and enrich lives." Marcketti is an alumna of the college; Jolly is a former dean.

Leslie named AIA fellow

Thomas Leslie, Morrill Professor of architecture and internationally renowned expert on architectural history and practice, was named a fellow of the American Institute of Architects. He received this recognition for his research and education -- particularly on Chicago skyscrapers, Italian architect Pier Luigi Nervi, American architect Louis Kahn and post-war design for aviation. Leslie is the Pickard Chilton Professor in Architecture and director of graduate education for the College of Design's architecture department. 

Iowa State receives NAACP award

Iowa State received the "Continuing the Legacy of Change" award at the Ames Branch NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet on Feb. 1. The university was a platinum sponsor of the event. The Debbie and Jerry Ivy College of Business was a silver sponsor; the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the athletics department served as bronze sponsors. At least 14 other departments or units also supported the event.

Reicks Licht honored by National Women in Agriculture Organization

Melea Reicks Licht, director of alumni relations for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, received the 2018 Spirit of Ruth Award from the Sigma Alpha professional agricultural sorority. The national award recognizes Sigma Alpha alumnae for active involvement, leadership and commitment to the field of agriculture.

Olds receives service award

June Olds, clinical assistant professor in veterinary clinical sciences, received the Presidential Service Award from the American Association of Zoo Veterinarians.

Phi Theta Kappa recognizes Iowa State for its support of community college transfer students

For the third consecutive year, Iowa State has been selected as a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society’s Transfer Honor Roll, recognizing excellence in recruitment and success in community college transfer pathway development. ISU is one of 112 institutions to receive the honor. Schools will be recognized at Phi Theta Kappa’s annual convention April 19-21 in Kansas City.

Young, Alcívar-Zúñiga and IMPAACT receive Advancing One Community Awards

The 2018 recipients of the Advancing One Community Awards are Michael Young, assistant professor, mathematics; Maria Alcívar-Zúñiga, doctoral student in human development and family studies; and IMPAACT, ISU Making Progress for the Asian American Community Today. Since 2006, Iowa State has honored students, groups and faculty or staff members who demonstrate a commitment to the principles and goals of Martin Luther King Jr. to create an inclusive multicultural community, and to reduce injustice and inequity at Iowa State.
