Jordan selected for HERS Leadership Institute

Tera Jordan, assistant provost for faculty development and associate professor of human development and family studies, has been selected for the Leadership Institute sponsored by HERS (Higher Education Resource Services), a leadership development and research organization dedicated to creating and sustaining a diverse network of women leaders in higher education. The institute helps fill leadership pipelines across the nation with women who can help their institutions create a more inclusive and equitable future. The 12-session institute begins in February and runs through early May. Jordan, who joined Iowa State in 2012, supports programs and policies that increase faculty success at Iowa State.

Peters honored by Steel Founders Society

The Steel Founders Society of America named Frank Peters, director of the Study Abroad Center and C.G. "Turk" and Joyce A. Therkildsen Professor in Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering, as the 2021 recipient of its Thomas E. Barlow Award of Honor. The Barlow Award is one of the society's three top honors and aims to recognize individuals who have gone above and beyond the call to support the steel casting industry but are not an employee of a member company. 

Wongpiromsarn receives CAREER award from NSF

Nok Wongpiromsarn, assistant professor in computer science, earned a CAREER award from the National Science Foundation (NSF). The $502,000 award will support her research in learning-enabled autonomous systems through 2027. The CAREER award is the NSF's most prestigious award in support of early-career faculty.

Kanwar elected as European Academy fellow

Rameshwar Kanwar, Distinguished Professor of agricultural and biosystems engineering, was recently elected as a fellow of the European Academy of the Sciences and Arts. Similar to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the European academy elects members for their outstanding achievements in science, arts, and governance. Nominations must come from a member of the academy. Kanwar was nominated by ISU alum Rao Surampalli, who as a doctoral student was a classmate in an ISU civil engineering class with Kanwar in 1981.

Kanwar is a renowned expert at developing engineering solutions for emerging global environmental problems from agricultural and livestock production systems. He holds multiple fellowships, including in the India National Academy of Agricultural Sciences and American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers. Currently, he is in Washington on a one-year assignment as Jefferson Science Fellow, advising the U.S. Agency for International Development.
