Rodde named distinguished alumnus
James Rodde, Louise Moen Hamilton Professor of Music and director of choral activities in the department of music and theatre, was named a Distinguished Alumnus this fall by Augsburg College, Minneapolis, where Rodde earned a bachelor's degree (1974) in music education. He then completed his M.A. and D.M.A. degrees in choral conducting at the University of Iowa.
Business faculty named distinguished fellows
Mike Crum, Patricia Daugherty and the late Richard (Dick) Post, professor emeriti in supply chain management, were named to the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals' inaugural class of distinguished fellows. This is the highest honor a scholar can receive from the 9,000-member council. The new program recognizes academic scholars who have provided exemplary contributions to the field of logistics and supply chain management.
Extension collaborative captures national award
The nine-university Growing Together Multi-State Collaborative, of which ISU Extension and Outreach is a founding member, received the 2023 Excellence in Extension Team Award from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculture, Cooperative Extension and the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities. The award recognizes excellence of an extension team in performing the work of extension research, technical assistance and outreach education. Over the last three years, the multi-state collaborative has donated more than 600,000 pounds of fresh produce to 878 food distribution sites serving 375,000 clients.

Dr. Terry Engelken, professor of veterinary diagnostic and production animal medicine, received the 2023 Mentor of the Year Award from the American Association of Bovine Practitioners at its annual meeting in Milwaukee in September. The award recognizes members who have dedicated time and expertise to foster the growth, development and success of pre-veterinary or veterinary students.

Schultz receives national distinguished service award
Madeline Schultz received the Distinguished Service Award from the National Association of County Agricultural Agents. She was recognized for her work as the Women in Agriculture program manager with ISU Extension and Outreach's farm management team. With her team, Schultz developed 10 curricula and more than 200 Annie's Project and other multi-session farm management courses for women. She also began extension's annual Women in Ag leadership conference.

National Endowment for the Humanities grant workshop is Sept. 27
The Center for Excellence in the Arts and Humanities is collaborating with the National Endowment for the Humanities to host an NEH overview and grant-writing workshop for faculty and staff on Sept. 27 (8:30 a.m.-1 p.m., 3560 Memorial Union). Claudia Kinkela, senior program officer in NEH's division of research, will introduce NEH funding opportunities, provide tips for writing a successful application and talk about NEH fellowships. Time will be reserved for Q&A, and lunch is provided. Registration is free but required.
Additionally, Kinkela will offer one-on-one meetings with up to 12 registered faculty members actively working on NEH grant proposals. These private appointments are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis and require a short (one page or less) project description. Request a meeting in the registration process.
Walton honored for distinguished service to national council
Marlee Walton, associate teaching professor of civil engineering, received the Distinguished Service Award from the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) for her dedicated service to the council and the engineering and surveying professions. Since 2009, Walton has contributed to the work of more than a half dozen NCEES committees. She also is the council's representative to ABET's Applied and Natural Science Accreditation Commission and serves in leadership roles in the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Surveying and Geomatics Educators Society.
Lyte receives veterinary research award
Mark Lyte, professor of veterinary microbiology and preventive medicine and the W. Eugene Lloyd Chair in Toxicology, is Iowa State's recipient of a 2023 Zoetis Award for Veterinary Research Excellence. Zoetis is the world's largest producer of medicine and vaccinations for pets and livestock, and the award recognizes researchers whose innovative studies have advanced the scientific standing of veterinary medicine.
