Entrepreneurial visionary John Pappajohn has died

John Pappajohn, whose 1996 gift established entrepreneurial centers at all three Iowa regent universities, Drake University and North Iowa Area Community College, died April 22 in Naples, Florida. Iowa State's Pappajohn Center for Entrepreneurship opened on a vision of providing students of all majors a variety of entrepreneurial opportunities. Today, it offers programming for students, faculty, community entrepreneurs, business professionals and alumni with the objective of creating a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation to build and improve Iowa businesses.

Judi Eyles, director of Iowa State's Pappajohn Center for Entrepreneurship, said in a statement, "We are deeply saddened to learn of John's passing. John Pappajohn was a true visionary and his support of entrepreneurship at Iowa State will have a lasting impact. He was a kind and generous man, and he loved spending time with students and entrepreneurs.

"John was an inspiring and positive role model who taught our young entrepreneurs to be successful through his hard work, generosity and mantra that -- 'If I can do it, you can do it.' We are fortunate that he had the vision to change the landscape for entrepreneurs in Iowa and was always willing to support them, and the Iowa State Pappajohn Center for Entrepreneurship, not only financially, but with his advice and wisdom."

One receipt form for giveaways replaces three

Faculty and staff who provide cash, gift cards or items to individuals using university funds should use a new form to record receipt of the giveaway. Effective April 25, three forms were merged into a single form to reduce confusion about the process of collecting a signature acknowledging receipt of a payment or item. Found with other forms templates on the ISU controller's website, it's called the Research Participant Receipt and Property Receipt Form.

A common use of this form is when a research team compensates individuals with cash or gift cards as an incentive for participating in the research. Those who accept it are required to complete the receipt form when, or prior to, receiving their item(s). A signed receipt is required for income tax reporting. Requests for an employee to receive an award as a one-time payment should be submitted to hr_delivery@iastate.edu to be processed through the payroll office. Questions may be directed to the accounting/compliance office.
