The search for Iowa State’s next president will launch later this month, with the goal of selecting a new president by mid-November.
During its first meeting on July 1, members of the presidential search committee discussed a proposed search timeline (below). The committee is charged with identifying a group of finalists for the Iowa Board of Regents to consider for campus interviews.
During the meeting, members also shared attributes they want to see in the next president. Some of the qualities mentioned include:
- Strategic thinker and leader
- Appreciation for land-grant mission
- Ability to work with various constituencies
- Strong communicator and fundraiser
- Appreciation for entrepreneurship and public-private partnerships
- High integrity and character, approachable
- Strong political acumen
AGB Search, the firm assisting with the selection of a new president, will use the attributes to develop the position description. AGB also is meeting with members of the campus community for feedback on qualities that should be considered for the position.
Members of the search committee also suggested a broad list of preferred qualifications to attract a quality pool of candidates. Roderick McDavis, managing principal of AGB Search, told the committee he expects more than 50 candidates will apply for the position.
