Carillon Concert series resumes this summer

The music department's summer carillon concert series, a biannual event going back more than 20 years and featuring visiting carillonneurs, is in full swing. It's organized by university carillonneur and Cownie Professor of Music Tin-Shi Tam. The free monthly performances (always a Tuesday) begin at 7 p.m. 

Hylke Banning, who performs at St. Plechelmus Basilica in Oldenzall, Netherlands, will play on June 24. Banning performs in the Netherlands and has been a guest recitalist in Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Ireland, Portugal and the United States.

Carillon

Amy Heebner, who has weekly performances in Albany, New York, will ring the bells on July 29. Heeber learned to play the carillon at Middlebury College, Vermont. Jesse Ratcliffe will close out the series on Aug. 26. Ratcliffe is the director of music and organist at All Saints' Episcopal Church and associate carillonneur at the Joseph D. Baker Carillon in Frederick, Maryland. The summer series opened May 27 with a concert by Toni Raats, a freelance carilloneur based in Halsteren, Netherlands.

Spectators can find a program of music selections for each performance online, and are invited to bring their own blankets and chairs to central campus.

Tam will conduct her weekday 20-minute concerts (11:50 a.m.) this summer from June 16 to July 11.
