Iowa State junior Maddie Hotham, left, and junior Jackson Kelso enjoy a beautiful spring day during the “Finals in Full Bloom” event at Reiman Gardens. The event features free coffee, relaxation activities and quiet study spaces for students during prep week.
Reiman Gardens' marketing intern Mylie Miller wanted fellow Iowa State students to enjoy the gardens as much as she does and decided to make that the mission of her capstone project.
The senior management major worked with gardens staff to develop "Finals in Full Bloom." ISU students always have free access to Reiman Gardens, but during prep week, the gardens partnered with Morning Bell Coffee to provide free coffee for students (while supplies last) on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday (9 a.m.-2 p.m.). Students also could take part in relaxation activities or just find a quiet place to study with a great view.
"Research shows that exposure to green spaces can reduce anxiety, improve mood and enhance focus," Miller said. "By highlighting Reiman Gardens as a relaxing study destination, this campaign aims to encourage students to visit the gardens both to study and to take restorative breaks during one of the most demanding times of the academic semester.”
Cy’s Finals Frenzy — a week’s worth of free events available to students — concludes Friday with two activities at Parks Library. Barks at Parks (noon-3 p.m., second floor), and a pizza and game night (3-7 p.m., Cyclone Support Central in room 140).
