Bill Graves has stepped down as dean of the Graduate College.

Graves, a professor of horticulture, was appointed dean in 2017 after serving seven years as associate dean. He was reappointed to the role in 2022. He also served previously as director of graduate education in the horticulture department for 12 years and directed its interdisciplinary graduate programs for seven years. He remains on the horticulture faculty.

Accomplishments during Graves' tenure as dean include: expanding professional development for graduate students; creating the Center for Communication Excellence and 3-Minute Thesis competition; and supporting Iowa State's graduate assistants.

"Graduate education is critical to the success of a great land-grant institution like Iowa State University," said senior vice president and provost Jason Keith. "I appreciate Bill's 15 years of service to the Graduate College, as well as his commitment to students, both of which have made a difference on our campus."
