Eisman named AAUW American Fellow

April Eisman, ISU art history, has been named a 2012-2013 American Fellow by the American Association of University Women to study women artists in the former East Germany. AAUW American Fellowships are awarded to highly qualified women scholars who are conducting postdoctoral research, finishing research for publication or completing doctoral dissertations.

Schwieder to Iowa Women's Hall of Fame

Dorothy Schwieder will be inducted into the Iowa Women's Hall of Fame on Aug. 25. Schwieder is a well-known Iowa historian and retired Iowa State history professor. The Iowa governor and Iowa Commission on the Status of Women annually pay tribute to four women with the Hall of Fame awards.

Zanish-Belcher elected to leadership council

Tanya Zanish-Belcher, associate professor and head of Special Collections and University Archives in the ISU Library, has been elected to a three-year council term with the Society of American Archivists. The nine-member council, elected by the 6,100 eligible members of the society, provide leadership to the society and oversee its budget, programs and staff. 

Bloebaum wins aeronautics and astronautics award

Christina Bloebaum, who will be joining the aerospace engineering department this fall, has recently received the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Multidisciplinary Design Optimization Award for 2012 (AIAA MDO Award).

The award was established in 1993 to recognize individuals for outstanding contributions to the development and application of techniques in multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) within aerospace engineering.

Sullivan named regional operations flight commander of the year

Capt. Jake Sullivan, assistant professor of aerospace studies, was named Operations Flight Commander of the Year for the Northwest Region of the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps. As Operations Flight Commander for Iowa State’s AFROTC program, he mentored and trained 85 cadets in leadership and followership, customs and courtesies, Air Force processes and Cadet Wing operations. He devoted 16 weeks evaluating over 4,000 cadets from detachments nationwide. His efforts led ISU’s cadet wing to a No. 2 ranking in the Northwest Region in 2011, and resulted in four cadets earning distinguished graduate and three earning superior performer honors. The Northwest Region consists of 34 host detachments and 182 cross-town schools spanning from Indiana to Alaska.

Clem honored by IEEE

John Clem, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of physics and senior physicist emeritus at the Department of Energy's Ames Laboratory, will receive the 2012 IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Council On Superconductivity Award for Significant and Sustained Contributions to Applied Superconductivity. IEEE is the world's largest professional organization for the advancement of technology. The citation is for significant and sustained contributions to the development of superconducting materials by advancing the science of both low-temperature and high-temperature superconducting materials.
